Red Dead Online Ain’t Wild West Enough

Lately, Rockstar has been adding a bunch of new game modes into Red Dead Online. Which is good. The game is lacking content and players need more to do. But these new modes aren’t the content Red Dead Online I really want. These modes are sometimes fine, but rarely take advantage of RDO’s incredible and large virtual wild west. That seems like a missed opportunity. If we look at the last few updates Rockstar has released for Red Dead Online,

The Pinkertons Are Still Around, Suing Over Red Dead Redemption 2

The Pinkertons Are Still Around, Suing Over Red Dead Redemption 2

I have learned two things today. One is that publishers Take-Two find themselves in the middle of a legal battle over Red Dead Redemption 2. Two is that the Pinkertons, famous detective villains from the 19th century’s old, wild west are still around in 2019. As Polygon report, the Pinkertons—now owned by Swedish security company Securitas AB and called Pinkerton Consulting & Investigations—sent a cease-and-desist notice to Take-Two last month, asking for either a single payment or a royalty arrangement

Rockstar Makes Early Adjustments To Red Dead Online’s Grindy Economy

Red Dead Online’s launch has been rocky. While there’s plenty of enjoyable rootin’ and shootin’, the meager rewards for playing have frustrated many players. In a blog post today, Rockstar announced new changes—and free rewards—that should make it easier to rake in the cash and make Dutch happy. Players can acquire two currencies, money and gold pieces, but getting their hands on enough loot to buy new equipment was a hassle. Today, Rockstar announced that the following changes to the

I Hope Red Dead Online Brings Back Red Dead Redemption’s Standoffs

I Hope Red Dead Online Brings Back Red Dead Redemption's Standoffs

Red Dead Online is now available for everyone to play. As players fret over the economy and wonder what shape the game will take, I’m mostly thinking about how much I hope to see one key feature from Red Dead Redemption’s multiplayer make a comeback: standoffs. While Red Dead Redemption’s multiplayer was always more about wandering the open world with your friends, there were a variety of competitive gameplay modes where players could show off their gunslinging. These matches always

Red Dead's Companion App Is Great, And You Should Definitely Use It

The map updates in real-time, so it’ll always be showing your location and heading, as well as everything else, from your horse to bad guys to mission markers. It doesn’t take long with Red Dead Redemption 2 before you run into a Kirk Hamilton-sized conundrum: do you play with the HUD on, and experience the Old West through health meters and radars, or do you turn all that off and do things the pretty/pure/hard way. We’ve spent years debating the

We All Sometimes Struggle With Work-Life Balance

We All Sometimes Struggle With Work-Life Balance

Today on Kotaku Splitscreen we’re talking about crunch, a complicated issue that affects us all in a lot of ways. Work-life balance can be a tricky thing for many people working in all sorts of fields, including video games. Kirk has spent the past week doing nothing but playing Red Dead Redemption 2 for his review and I’ve spent the past week doing nothing but reporting on how it was made, so today we talk about both. We talk about

Red Dead Redemption 2: The Kotaku Review

Red Dead Redemption 2: The Kotaku Review

From tip to tail, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a profound, glorious downer. It is the rare blockbuster video game that seeks to move players not through empowering gameplay and jubilant heroics, but by relentlessly forcing them to confront decay and despair. It has no heroes, only flawed men and women fighting viciously to survive in a world that seems destined to destroy them. It is both an exhilarating glimpse into the future of entertainment and a stubborn torch bearer
